I am out with lanterns looking for myself.
- Emily Dickinson
WHO IS SHE?
I began my journey of self-discovery when I landed in the United States from Cuba at five years old.
Growing up in Michigan as a Cuban immigrant meant learning English quickly, navigating systems for my family, and growing up faster than most kids my age. I was forced into independence and resiliency; however, I must say, those traits have served me well.
I’ve spent years trying to understand where I belonged. That internal tension fueled my curiosity and sense of self.
Navigating through life, I've increasingly viewed each moment as an opportunity for constant improvement and, dare I say, reinvention. I would describe myself as a multifaceted person, driven by ambition and a desire to seek new opportunities. Equally, I'm driven by the ever-persistent need to be socially conscious and to leave the world a better place than I found it.
As I sit here writing this ‘about me’, there’s one key takeaway I want you to remember: the lantern will never blow out.
